SEO is not a “one click” fix

One of the more common things I’ve seen in the many, many SEO setups is the idea that SEO is fixed with a plugin. This is not the case.

If you’re one of the many hundreds upon hundreds of businesses using a well known CMS such as WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal, there’s a good chance your SEO is handled by a plugin.

There’s nothing wrong with this, and even some of the better SEOs will use a plugin as a starting point. However that’s the point of this whole thing: SEO plugins are a starting point, and cannot be the only thing you use in your SEO journey.

Simply put: SEO problems cannot be solved with a one click fix by installing an SEO plugin and walking away. There’s more to it than that.

Every webpage is different

While many of the lessons learned in SEO are consistent and can be brought across from page to page, every webpage is different, and so there’s no such thing as a one click fix SEO plugin makers can build.

Installing an SEO plugin can help you get across what’s needed, and it might even draw your attention to the things you need to address ASAP, but it won’t act as a patch on your SEO. You’ll still need to do some things to make it start working for you.

When you install an SEO plugin, go through the settings

Every SEO plugin is different, but some stand out, such as the incredibly popular and versatile Yoast SEO as well as the other big WordPress plugin, All In One WordPress SEO.

Whichever you choose to install, make sure to go through the settings and make changes, because the site will actually see the benefit of some of that SEO improvement if you make sure to do that. You can set up connections to Google services, automate titles and descriptions, and generally start making your website a little more your own, which is great because a decent job of SEO requires some of that individual touch.

Good SEO takes time

One click fixes also come with the expectation that they’re fast, but that is simply not the case with SEO. Good SEO takes time, and requires patience, not just on the part of the person doing the SEO, but of the client, too.

You can’t expect a total turnaround into success unless you have a product that’s going viral and doing your marketing for you, and much the same is true if you’re starting a website from scratch, as well.

Good SEO is not only going to take some time for a website and the new plugin to make a dent, but for search engines to start giving a damn about the changes you’ve made.
